Chat FAQs

How does the chat work? What can I expect?

The chat platform on the Children’s Cove website is provided by LiveChat.com. The feature is meant to provide information and support to individuals visiting our website. It works like other instant messaging services you maybe have seen, with more safety & security features. You will enter a live private chat session with a Children’s Cove staff member and begin sending messages to each other. The chat is completely anonymous. You can share what you would like. During your chat, the staff member will listen, support you, and help you find resources.

When you want to end the chat, click “End Chat.” The chat window will disappear. Once you close your browser window, your conversation will be deleted. No record of your conversation will be kept. You can also choose to click the “Quick Escape” button anytime during a chat. The button will end the chat and send you to the Google homepage.

Chat will be terminated if the service is not being utilized in the manner for which it is provided.

Will you have to report if I tell you something happened?

Per Massachusetts law, the staff at Children’s Cove are mandated reporters. That means we must follow Massachusetts state reporting laws. If we think you are under 18 and you tell us any information that makes us think you are being abused or neglected, present a danger to yourself or others, disclose known abuse against an elderly person or someone with disability, we may have to share this with other adults to help keep you or others safe. But we will never require you to provide identifying information to chat. You can share what you feel comfortable sharing.

When will the chat helpline be available?

Currently our chat services are unavailable as we work on our schedule. If you have any immediate concerns or questions, please call us at 508-375-0410 and choosing option 1, or by emailing intake@childrenscove.org

How much do chat services cost?

There is no cost to utilize the chat feature on our website. Other data costs may apply when you use chat services from your cell phone or tablet.

Will text/chat services appear on my phone bill?

It depends on your phone service provider. While there will be no record of our conversation, the time in which you utilize data on your mobile device may appear on phone records. Consider this when thinking about your privacy and safety.

To learn more about our chat feature, please read the full description here.
